Energy efficient sewage sludge recycling

Susteen Technologies, together with Zweckverband Müllverwertung Schwandorf (ZMS) and the Institute of Energy Technology at Amberg-Weiden University of Applied Sciences, are implementing a project for the energy-efficient recycling of sewage sludge.

For this purpose, Susteen has built the first industrial test plant with a capacity of 7 t/day dried sewage sludge, which will be tested until 2020 in conjunction with a combined heat and power plant for generating electricity from gas and oil and a coal gasifier for the utilization of the product coal.

Thus, the TCR® process can provide the maximum energy potential of sewage sludge for autarkic drying. At the same time, the sewage sludge is reduced to a phosphate-rich ash. The important plant nutrient phosphate can be used particularly well by the process control at low temperatures.

The project is funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology as part of the energy research program.
